Flatiron School, the NYC-founded coding bootcamp, is coming to WeWork’s Colony Square location. Joining Brooklyn, Houston, D.C and London, the Atlanta location will be the school’s fifth location outside of its Manhattan flagship campus, and the first location in the Southeast. As of today, the school will be taking applications for its inaugural class that will start on Sep. 17, 2018.
“We’re excited to announce our first campus in Atlanta and become a part of the thriving business community here,” said Adam Enbar, CEO and co-founder of Flatiron School. “Home to so many established and growing companies, Atlanta is poised to become an epicenter for today's top talent. By opening a campus here it will ensure that local companies don't have to look far to find the best and brightest employees.”
Flatiron School’s mission is to diversify the tech industry by making education more accessible. While Atlanta is one of the most diverse cities in the country, women and underrepresented communities are vastly underserved within its tech space. As part of the campus expansion into Atlanta, Flatiron School has partnered with Atlanta-based Opportunity Hub (OHUB) to offer $1 million in scholarships per year for under-tapped students of color across the country. The partnership will also host an influencer-driven campaign in the hopes of funding more technology education scholarships for high-potential students of color from low-income backgrounds.“
As the nation’s leading inclusive innovation, entrepreneurship and investment platform, OHUB is always looking for new ways to implement diversity and inclusion at high growth companies and beyond,” said Rodney Sampson, Chairman and CEO of Opportunity Hub. “We’re excited to partner with Flatiron School to make technology education more accessible to under-tapped communities of color across the country, starting with our hometown in Atlanta”.
Since its inception, Flatiron School has provided more than $10 million in scholarships to diverse populations, helping to bridge the gap by making technology education more accessible for women and underrepresented communities, and supporting with job placement upon graduation.
“With a hotbed of talent, and more than 50 incubators, accelerator programs and corporate innovation centers, Atlanta continues to strengthen its reputation as a top tech town,” said Dr. Eloisa Klementich, President and CEO of Invest Atlanta. “Flatiron School will be a critical partner in making our talent pipeline even more robust, and we look forward to partnering to help their graduates build meaningful careers within Atlanta’s growing technology business community.”
WeWork acquired Flatiron School in late 2017 which has provided the school the opportunity to open campuses at select WeWork locations around the world. The Atlanta location will be its fifth location outside of it’s NYC headquarters, and first location in the Southeast. The campus holds over 5,500 square feet of WeWork’s Colony Square location in Midtown Atlanta, which is home to some of the city’s most vibrant residents.
“Flatiron School has a proven track record of producing some of the most talented programmers in the country, and we are eager to welcome this creative group to our corner of Main and Main,” said Liz Gillespie, partner and vice president of marketing at North American Properties. “Technology has become a vital part of our environment, and this innovative experience will provide our community with another great opportunity to shape the future of Midtown.”
