ATLANTA (July 17, 2020) – Giant, smiling teddy bears have been spotted hanging around at Colony Square. Midtown neighbors have seen the life-size bears sipping coffee in The Grove, working out in C-Cycle, chatting with Concierge and smiling at passersby on 14th Street. No one knows where they came from, but everyone wants to know why they are there. Throughout July, the plush stuffed animals, known as a universal symbol for comfort, can be found sprinkled around the mixed-use destination, introducing a playful and cheerful aspect to safe social distancing.
Originally debuted in Paris as Les Nounours des Gobelins, the life-sized teddy bears have sparked joy and happiness for those who encounter them. The bears will make their way around the Midtown destination – cozying up on benches, riding Pelotons, eating at Colony Square restaurants – all while subtly encouraging and reminding guests to maintain a safe distance from others.
“The world is in need of a little more joy and playfulness right now,” said Sara Carville, marketing manager at Colony Square. “After seeing the happiness these teddy bears sparked in Paris, we wanted to introduce this concept to Colony Square, a place known for bringing people together. The bears aim to bring feelings of positivity and community to an overall isolating situation.”
There will be multiple bears around property, each wearing a sign explaining why they are onsite and encouraging guests to share their encounters on social media using the hashtag #BetterTogether.
As part of its company-wide COVID-19 response program, Better Together, NAP deployed several measures and precautions at Colony Square to ensure the health and safety of its guests, office workers and employees, including the roll-out of an Elevator Concierge program; investment in UVC lighting technology; 24/7 security to patrol the property and enforce the updated Code of Conduct; limited furniture in common areas; increased social distancing signage in elevators and around property; and enhanced cleaning protocols and hand sanitizer stations.
