Colony Square Launching 2021 “Season on the Square” Holiday Program in November

About Colony Square

At the corner of 14th and Peachtree Streets sits Colony Square, the first-ever mixed-use development to rise in the Southeast. For more than 50 years, the iconic destination has anchored the Midtown Atlanta community and served as the heartbeat of the city. Owned and operated by North American Properties (NAP), the reimagined Colony Square brings the Art of Modern Life to Midtown and features nearly one million square feet of class A office; 160,000 square feet of best-in-class retail, restaurants and entertainment; a 20,000-square-foot food hall featuring an all-local lineup of culinary talent; 25,000 square feet of open-air greenspace; 262 luxury residences and a 466-room hotel. Since its inception in the early 1970s, Colony Square has brought an unmatched energy to the streets of Midtown, and now, the destination has once again re-emerged as the crown jewel of the vibrant district. The reimagined Colony Square is a foodie haven; shopping mecca; events destination; and a beautiful, amenity-rich and arts-infused place to gather with the community and soak up Midtown's vibe. Open, walkable, full of greenspace and transit friendly, The Square is alive with possibility.

ATLANTA (October 11, 2021) – An urban winter wonderland experience like no other in metro Atlanta is coming to Midtown’s Living Room this holiday season, announced North American Properties (NAP), marking the completion of the reimagined Colony Square at the corner of 14th and Peachtree Streets. From Friday, November 19 through Monday, January 17, the iconic mixed-use destination will present its larger-than-ever “Season on the Square,” a collection of festive community-driven activations for the public to relish, including ice-skating, a seasonal speakeasy, magic moments with Santa and its first-ever tree lighting ceremony.

“As our team approaches the end of its redevelopment journey at Colony Square, we’ve been reflecting on the tremendous grassroots community-building that has happened here over the last five years. The constant outpouring of support we’ve experienced has been truly humbling, and for that, we thank you, Atlanta,” said Tim Perry, NAP managing partner. “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate this significant milestone in our company’s history than with our closest friends, family and neighbors during the most wonderful time of the year.”

Kicking off the Season on the Square is the opening of the ice-skating rink. During the winter of 1973, Colony Square unveiled a unique office amenity, an indoor ice-skating rink known as the Colony Square Capades Chalet. The 8,000-square-foot rink sat within the formerly enclosed mall that connected the two original office towers (Buildings 100 and 400), which has since been replaced by The Plaza, a 10,000-square-foot open-air gathering space at the heart of the property. After much anticipation, the ice-skating rink will make its nostalgic return to Colony Square when it reopens in The Plaza this fall.

Further details about the ice-skating rink and the entire Season on the Square are below:

  • Skate on the Square | Friday, November 19 through Monday, January 17 – Throughout the holiday season, The Plaza will be transformed into an ice-skating rink. Hours of operation will be Mondays through Fridays from 3 to 9 p.m.; Saturdays from noon to 10 p.m.; Sundays from noon to 7 p.m.; and on school holidays from noon to 10 p.m. Tickets, which include skates, are $18 per adult and $14 per child (12 & under).
  • The North Pole | Friday, November 19 through Thursday, December 23 – Set atop Establishment overlooking 14th and Juniper Streets, The Grove Terrace will play host to a seasonal igloo-inspired speakeasy serving a specialty holiday cocktail menu. The merry North Pole pop-up bar will be open to the public Thursdays through Saturdays from 4 to 10 p.m. Entry is first come, first served for visitors 21 or older, and capacity is limited to 50 guests at a time. There is no admission fee, however the cost of beverages will vary.
  • The Lighting at Colony Square benefiting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta | Saturday, December 4 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. – Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Colony Square will host the inaugural Lighting at Colony Square, an all-day family friendly celebration.
  • Beginning at 10 a.m., Children’s will bring an extravaganza of street performers, dance groups and more to Peachtree Street in front of Colony Square.
  • Between noon and 3 p.m., Colony Square’s Festivity Loop (valet loop) will be activated with face painting, balloon artists and other gleeful surprises. Attendees can also visit The Grove (urban pocket park at the corner of Juniper and 14th Streets) for Santa photos and enjoy a DJ along with live ice-skating performances in The Plaza from noon to 4 p.m.
  • The A-Town-A-List Band takes the Main Stage in The Front Loop at 4:30 p.m. to get event attendees in the holiday spirit.
  • Colony Square’s inaugural Tree Lighting Show will start at 5:30 p.m. Midtown’s official tree lighting ceremony will feature live musical showcases from the Atlanta Music Project Choir and Angelica Hale, former runner-up on America’s Got Talent and Children’s patient, as well as guest appearances from local and international (hint: the jolly big guy) celebrities alike.
  • Just before 6 p.m., the community will join in a countdown to the big moment when special guests from Children’s flip the switch and the 52-foot tree lights up for all of Midtown to see, from the ice-skating rink to Peachtree Street and beyond. The tree, which will be located on the West Retail Roof above the soon-to-open Sunnies, will remain lit throughout the remainder of the holiday season.
  • Atlanta Santa Speedo Run | Saturday, December 11 from noon to 4 p.m. – In partnership with Bert’s Big Adventure, Politan Row at Colony Square will serve as the official before and after party location for this year’s one-mile fun run. Check-in for the race opens at noon with a live DJ, costume contest and other jolly activities. Winners will be announced back at Politan Row following the spectacle as the DJ continues spinning cheerful jams until 4 p.m.
  • Smiles for the Season benefiting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta | Sunday, December 12 from 8 to 10 a.m. – Experience a one-of-a-kind kid-focused holiday breakfast at 5Church with special characters and a visit from Santa.

“Midtown Atlanta always shines bright during the holidays, and we’re so excited to add some new sparkle to the neighborhood this year,” said Lauren Ness, marketing manager at Colony Square. “Visions of twirling ice skaters, reindeer games and ornaments are already dancing through my head. We can’t wait to bring this new tradition to life at the corner of 14th and Peachtree Streets.”
