The Wilbert Group
ATLANTA (Sept. 17, 2020) – On Thursday, October 8, City of Refuge is bringing its annual fundraiser, The Gathering, to the heart of Midtown Atlanta. In partnership with Colony Square, the nonprofit has reimagined the event to celebrate food, fellowship and stories of impact in an open-air setting. The Gathering will be hosted in Colony Square’s new community greenspace, The Plaza, and feature a gourmet tapas-style meal provided by The Castellucci Hospitality Group as well as entertainment led by Mac Powell, founder of award-winning Christian rock band Third Day.
“Every year at The Gathering, we aim to deliver an experience that immerses guests in the journey City of Refuge residents follow to lead a self-sufficient lifestyle, and our team is eager to showcase the resilience of our community during this one-of-a-kind event,” said Bruce Deel, founder and CEO of City of Refuge. “We are extremely thankful to our partners for helping us revamp our annual fundraiser so that it is creative, engaging and, most importantly, responsive to COVID-19 guidelines.”
During The Gathering, attendees will experience an exclusive first look at The Plaza at Colony Square, which will officially open to the public the following day. As guests indulge in dinner from The Castellucci Hospitality Group, stories of four individuals whose lives have been transformed by City of Refuge will be depicted through a Broadway-style performance. Throughout the show, Mac Powell and Friends will play five original songs.
The Gathering will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. and tickets start at $500. To ensure the safety of guests, City of Refuge is implementing strict COVID-19 procedures, including assigned seating, socially distanced tables, hand sanitizer stations will be placed throughout the space, dinner will be served in individual bento boxes, and bathrooms and other high touch surfaces will be sanitized throughout the evening. Guests are also encouraged to wear masks for the duration of the event and will be available on-site as needed.
“Bruce Deel and his team at City of Refuge have played such a major role in the revitalization of Atlanta’s Westside. Time and again, I’ve witnessed the organization extend second chances to displaced individuals and help them turn their lives around,” said Mark Toro, Chairman of the Board at North American Properties and City of Refuge Board member. “Our ExperienceMakers™ at Colony Square are honored to perform a part in The Gathering and shine a light on the tremendous work by the nonprofit.”
Sponsors for The Gathering include Elavon, EY, Barney’s Pharmacy, Inc., Colony Square, Jon and Amy Bridges, Cox, Holder, the Malon D. Mimms Company, North American Properties, Reef Parking, Revel Systems, The Wilbert Group, Whole Foods Market, and Royal Food Service, among others.
